The Pedagogy Workshop is a central component of Northern Colorado Piano Day, providing a peer-reviewed forum for collegiate students and professional teachers to share research, teaching strategies, and innovative approaches to piano instruction.
Designed to foster thoughtful dialogue and professional growth, the Workshop encourages presenters and participants to engage critically with current pedagogical practices while exploring new ideas that support effective, inclusive, and inspiring music education.
Call for Abstracts
The Workshop welcomes proposals from collegiate students and professional teachers on a wide range of topics related to piano pedagogy, performance, and studio practice. Suggested areas include, but are not limited to:
- Piano technique and physical wellness
- Teaching beginners and intermediate students
- Curriculum design and repertoire selection
- Research in piano pedagogy
- Equity, access, and inclusion in music education
All proposals are reviewed through a competitive, anonymous peer-review process.
Deadline: March 27, 2026
Notification of accepted proposals will be sent no later than April 5, 2026.
Presentation Formats
Applicants may propose one of the following formats:
- Lightning Round: 10-minute focused presentation
- Standard Presentation: 25-minute presentation + 5-minute question-and-answer session
- Virtual Presentation: 25-minute presentation via Zoom + 5-minute question-and-answer session
- Lecture-Recital: 45-minute lecture-recital + 5-minute discussion
The selection committee reserves the right to recommend alternate formats to support balanced programming.
